Avelina P. Alegre

Oct. 3, 1918 — Jan. 16, 2006

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday for Avelina P. Alegre, 
87, who died Monday at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital.

Born in Crows Landing, Mrs. Alegre lived in Tracy 54 years. She retired from 
H.J. Heinz Co. after 25 years. She was a parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic 
Church and a member of the Second Order of Carmelites, Espirito Santo of Sao 
Bento of Terceira, Our Lady of Fatima, IPFES of Tracy and Our Lady of 
Miracles. She will be remembered as a warm, loving mother, grandmother and 
great-grandmother.

Mrs. Alegre is survived by her children, Evelyn Costa, and her husband, Bob, 
of Tracy, Lu Cain, and her husband, Bob, of Tracy, and Judy Tillett of Yuba 
City; siblings, Maria Mello of Artestia, Etelvina Parreira and Pedro Parreira, 
both of the Azores; grandchildren, Ann Herrington, and her husband, Bob, of 
Stockton, Bobby Costa, and his wife, Robin, of Tracy, Loree Stroup, and her 
husband, Mark, of Tracy, Sheri Hoerth, and her husband, Duaine, of Ripon and 
Johnny Tillett, of Yuba City; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John Martin Alegre.

Friday’s Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s 
Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave. Visitation will be observed from 1 to 5 
p.m. today at Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave. 

Interment will be in Tracy Cemetery.

Contributions in Mrs. Alegre’s name may be sent to St. Bernard’s Catholic 
Church Building Fund, 163 W. Eaton Ave., Tracy 95376.
