"Jack" Blum, 84, of Acampo, died March 24 in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born March 26, 1920, in Euclid, "Cleveland" Ohio. Mr. Blum graduated from Shore High in 1938, and then began engineering studies at General Motors Institute in Flint, Mich. in 1939. After World War II began, he enlisted in Naval Midshipman's School at the University of Nortre Dame, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46 as a line officer specialist in ship repair and as a gyro compass officer. He married Anne Blaisdell in 1945. Hans Blum He graduated from General Motors Institute with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. He and his family moved to Richmond, where he worked as the plant manager for Rheem Manufacturing. He was employed by Curtiss Wright Manufacturing in Buffalo, N.Y. for a year. He returned to San Jose, where he established his own business, Sierra Tool & Manufacturing & Pressed Metals Inc. He designed and built the original tooling and first production of the Peterbilt "Texas Bumper." In 1973, he moved his company to Wallace. He and his wife enjoyed music and were choir members of the First United Methodist Churches in Cambrian Park, San Jose and Lodi. In the late 1960s, they toured Europe with the Santa Clara Chorale. In 1978, he was selected along with a team of specialists by the U.S. Government to assist in the South Korean metal working industry. He is survived by his son, John Blum, of Acampo; daughters, Melanie Molle, of San Jose, and Carole Blum, of Glendale; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ann Blum in 2001; sister, Antoinette Lillian; and brother, William Blum. A memorial service will be held at noon Sunday at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Allan Kimber officiating. There will be no visitation and committal will be private.
