She was born Shirley Freida Muster on Oct. 14, 1916, in Boise, Idaho. She moved to California with her family and lived in Lodi before settling in Stockton 75 years ago. She attended local schools and then was a cannery worker for 20 years. She married U.S. Army Sgt. Joseph Carruesco in 1941 in Reno, Nev. Following his military service, they returned to Stockton. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and ballroom dancing. Shirley Carruesco She is survived by her sons, Joseph A. Carruesco, Jr., Gary Carruesco, of Bakersfield and Rodney S. Carruesco, of Stockton; daughter, Lenore M. Nellman, of Lodi; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Carruesco in 1998; brothers, Carl, Manuel and Raymond Muster; and sister, Martha Markel. A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Harney Lane and Highway 99, Lodi. Interment will follow. A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. today at Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary, 809 N. California St., Stockton. Visitation will be private.
