She was born February 15, 1921 in Banagher, Ireland, the daughter of Jack and Kathryn Keane. In 1938 she moved to New York City to live with her Aunt Mary. She lived in New York throughout World War II. After the war she moved to California and on February 24, 1946 married Clarence Childers. They settled in San Rafael in Marin County and raised four children. May was always involved with the Cub Scouts, Brownies, Little League or the PTA. In 1974 they moved to Lodi in San Joaquin County and fell in love with the area and the many new friends they made there. They ended up spending the rest of their lives in Lodi. May loved playing bridge and played with several different groups. She and Clarence also enjoyed square dancing and traveled to "ho downs" throughtout the area. She was preceded in death by Clarence, her husband of nearly 60 years. May is survived by her children, John E. Childers of Petaluma, CA, Richard B. Childers (Jeanne) of San Rafael, CA, Robert K. Childers of Fairbanks, AK, Sharon A. Sluggett (Ron) of Bowen Island, B.C., Canada and grandchildren Christine Bullari (Dan) of Chico, CA, Daniel Childers of Fairfax, CA, Galen Childers of Anchorage, AK, Allison Childers, of Fairbanks, AK, Bryan Sluggett, Sean Sluggett, Aaron Sluggett all of Bowen Island, B.C., Canada and step grandson Michael Morris, DC of Phoenix, AZ. Her sisters, Theresa Allan of Bayfield, Ontario, Canada, Lily McCarthy of Banagher, Ireland, Pauline McGreevy of Dublin, Ireland and her brother James Keane of Banagher, Ireland. Friends are welcome to attend a joint Memorial Service held for Margaret and her husband Clarence on Monday, August 15, 2005 in the Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home Chapel, 123 No. School Street, Lodi, CA at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be private.
