She was born Maxine Louise Salisbury on Dec. 6, 1922, in Ukiah. Mrs. Cockayne moved to Lodi with her family in 1928, where she lived until relocating to Las Vegas in 2004. She attended local schools and graduated from Lodi High School in 1940. She attended Lodi Business College and worked at Super Mold Corp. She then worked at the Lodi Police Department, where she met Don Cockayne, and they were married in 1943. Later, she worked for San Joaquin County in various departments including the agricultural department, the Elkhorn Justice's Court and the Lodi Justice Court. In 1968, she became court clerk for Lodi Municipal Court, where she remained until her retirement in 1982. She was the president of the Lodi Chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Club, a charter member of the Mokelumne Toastmistressess club, life member of Beta Sigma Phi and was an officer in the Association of Municipal Courts Clerks. She was a former president of the Associated Business Girls of California and the Ladies Auxiliary of the California State Firefighters Association. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, reading, card playing and supporting worthy charities. She is survived by her son Leslie Cockayne, of Las Vegas, Nev.; brothers, Don Salisbury, of Lodi and Morris Salisbury, of Auburn; and sister, Irene Cooper, of Paradise. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Don Cockayne in 1999. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 27 at Lodi First Baptist Church.
