Joseph J. Costa 
August 30, 1914 - April 7, 2005



Joseph J. Costa, age 90, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2005. Mr. Costa 
lived the last 16 years in Stockton. He lived previously in Burlingame where he 
was a tile setter with Peninsula Art Tile and Varni Tile. He was a member of 
the Knights of Columbus in Stockton. 
He is survived by his wife, Rose Costa of Stockton and preceded in death by 
Lucile Costa; his children, the late Diana Jo Carignan, the late James Joseph 
Costa, Marylou Costa of Oakland and Patricia Costa Tague (Michael) of 
Anchorage, KY; his grandchildren, Kate Sandoval (Frank), Joel Carignan (Kaci 
Chambers), James Costa (Julie), Maxwell and Sydney Tague; great-grandchildren, 
Francisco, Diana, Joslyn and John Joseph; his siblings, Frank Costa (Helen), 
Lucy Sousa, John Costa (Eleanor), Velma Rivara (John), Andy Costa, Louie Costa 
(Mary), Tom Costa (Mary), George Costa, the late Tony Costa (Mary), the late 
Mary Fernandes and the late Ann Costa (who died in childhood); his step-
children, Bernadine (Steve) Scarboro, Bill Butcher, Alvin Butcher (Rene) and 
step-grandchildren, Jennifer Butcher, Kathleen Butcher, Janiele Sanders 
(Ernest), Jason Scarboro, Anthony Butcher and Kevin Butcher; step-great-
grandchildren, Tyler and Anthony.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on 
Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at Church of the Presentation, 1515 W. Ben Holt in 
Stockton. Vigil Service: 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2005 at DeYoung 
Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St. Stockton, CA. Visitation: 1:00 p.m. - 
7:00 p.m. Monday at the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Presentation Church, Building 
Fund, 6715 Leesburg Pl. Stockton, CA. 95207
