"Chuck" Dillon, Sr., left this earth on Friday, March 10, 2006, surrounded by his family at home after a courageous year long battle with cancer at the age of 63. He is now at peace around the Throne of our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born in Hollister, CA on October 7, 1942. At the age of 5 he and his mother moved to Stockton where his mother was to meet his step father, Bill whom Chuck considered his father. He attended Stockton schools and graduated from Franklin High School in 1960. He began an apprenticeship at Delta College choosing a career as an automobile technician finishing his apprenticeship in 1966. Chuck worked for Valley Volkswagon (formerly Thornton Motors) until a union strike in 1987, forced him to begin commuting. He worked at several dealerships finding a second home at Pleasanton Auto Mall, in the Volvo dealership until his retirement in October 2004. Chuck was involved in numerous activities and organizations. He was a member of S.A.L., Ed Stewart Post #803, where he cooked for many functions. One of his passions was the Boy Scouts of America Troop# 14 in Stockton. He was involved with his sons and in 1979 was inducted into the Order of the Arrow as a member of Sumi Lodge, his Indian name being "Achgiguwen", interpeted as "Noisy One." In 1983 he received the Silver Beaver Award. He continued to be involved after his sons were grown, cooking for the Boy Scouts at the 49er camp. In 1976 he received the George Meany Award for outstanding service to the youth. His other passion was the Automotive Machinists Union Local #428 of Stockton, where he served as president for many years. After the union strike Local #428 and Local # 1546 of Oakland, CA merged together where he served as a Shop Steward always fighting with his heart and soul for the working man. He was a union member for 39 years. Chuck loved the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, Nascar racing, cooking and camping. Over the years family and friends enjoyed many back yard barbecues and camping trips. Years ago someone started a tradition the men called the "Over Nighter." They would get together on the second weekend after the 4th of July and head for the mountains to be "Men". Chuck was the main cook and during the years there was lot of fun and many "lies" told. Chuck was a very special man. He loved to be around people and have a good time. He had a very quick wit and when you were with him there was always a lot of laughter. Chuck is very loved by us all and there is an emptiness in our hearts that can never be replaced. The family finds much comfort from the strength he left with us during his illness. He fought so very hard to live. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Bill and Marie McLachlan and close friend, Pete Flores of Stockton.
