He was born Nov. 15, 1929, in Lodi, where he was raised and graduated from Lodi High School in 1945. Mr. Dragoo was employed as a fire fighter for the California Division of Forestry for a few years in Amador County. He married Helen Marie Walker in 1952 in Carson City, Nev. He and his wife made their home in Lodi before moving to Sacramento, where they lived for 50 years. He served in the Navy on the destroyer, USS Henry Tucker from 1952 until his discharge in 1956. Following his discharge, he was employed by Pacific Gas and Electric, California Division of Forestry, Photo Lab, and United Courier in Sacramento until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Sacramento Jazz Society, was a historian of jazz, editor of the Jazz Paper and was an emcee for the local jazz bands in Sacramento. He formed and was the leader of Explorer Post No. 28 in Sacramento, and was active in Boy Scouts. He enjoyed puzzles, woodworking, jazz, fly fishing, camping and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Helen M. Dragoo, of Sacramento; son, Richard L. Dragoo, of Pullman, Wash.; sister, Martha Ann Harvey, of Portola; brothers, Vern and Robert Dragoo; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held at noon Wednesday at Lodi Funeral home with Pastor Jack Wright of South Pointe Christian Center, Sacramento officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at San Joaquin National Cemetery in Gustine. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, and from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Lodi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
