Erickson April 8, 1908 — Dec. 3, 2005 A memorial service will be Saturday for five-year Tracy resident Lilly W. Erickson, 97, who died Saturday at New Hope Care Center. Born in Sweden, Mrs. Erickson moved to the United States in 1924 and served in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps in Burma, India, during World War II for 2˝ years. After serving about 25 years, she retired as a major. She tended to many wounded U.S., Indian, Burmese, Chinese and Japanese troops. Mrs. Erickson retired from the Army and settled in Fremont for 44 years, where she became an active member of the Niles Congregational Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Erickson, who served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Saturday’s memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. at Niles Congregational Church, corner of H and Third streets, in Fremont. Interment will be private. Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., in Fremont, is handling arrangements. Contributions in Mrs. Erickson’s name may be sent to Niles Congregational Church, 255 H. St., Fremont 94536.
