All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ca/cafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: K T bluewolf@onemain.com November 8, 2005, 12:40 am The Tracy Press Roberta Eileen Hulse Jan. 20, 1924 — Sept. 27, 2005 Services will be Monday for Roberta Eileen Hulse, 81, who for many years had been known throughout Tracy as the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary “Poppy Lady.” She died Tuesday at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital. A native of San Jose, Mrs. Hulse, known to many as “Rob” or “Robby,” came to Tracy with her family when she was 4 days old. She had lived in Tracy since then, except for a year in Salinas and the 11 years she worked as a beauty operator in San Francisco and Fresno. Mrs. Hulse, a diminutive woman with a sprightly spirit, was a familiar sight in Tracy walking to the library and other destinations with her black and white poodles, Gigi and Iris. As an active member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary, she became known as the “Poppy Lady” for annually selling paper poppies and distributing poppy boards to local businsses in order to collect funds to provide services to hospitalized veterans. She did volunteer work at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Livermore. She enjoyed crocheting tablecloths for friends and spending time with her husband, Wes, and their dogs. Mrs. Hulse was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Women of the Moose College of Regents Tracy Post 1720 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Wesley Hulse, of Tracy; six cousins, Judy Archer, and her husband, Ron, of Reno, Nev., Tami Miller Anderson, Alex Anderson, Tasha Anderson and Jessica Hinksen, all of Rocklin, and James Boychuck, and his wife, Tamantha, of San Diego; and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William “Roy” and Mona Evans; and sister, Elyce Curry. Monday’s services will begin at 2 p.m. at Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave. Interment will be in Tracy Cemetery. Visitation at the mortuary will be observed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. Published on Saturday, October 1, 2005, in the Tracy Press.
