Furtado Jan. 12, 1915 — Nov. 24, 2005 Private services will be held for Carl E. Furtado, 90, who died Nov. 24, 2005 at Dameron Hospital in Stockton. Born in Hayward, Carl “The Barber” Furtado lived in Tracy 29 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a parishioner of St. Jacob’s Catholic Church in Hayward. Since the age of 15, Mr. Furtado snipped hairs and was well-known for his barber skills in both Hayward and Tracy. He cut his last head of hair in May. He enjoyed fishing and growing and harvesting Portuguese fava beans in his spare time. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him, especially by those who he waved to from his window at home. Mr. Furtado is survived by daughter Jana Janus of Tracy; grandchildren, Ted Walton of Surrey, British Columbia, Jeffery Gaio of Los Angeles, Lori Chevalier and her husband, Brian, of San Mateo, and Eric Gaio of Newark; great- grandchildren, Maranda Vanderwiel of Mt. Shasta, Erik Vanderwiel of Pensacola, Fla., Devin and Olivia Chevalier, both of San Mateo; and great-great- grandchild, Lilly Dunlap. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Beatrice Furtado; and daughter, Carol Gaio.
