He was born Oct. 2, 1918, in Herd, Okla., where he was raised. Mr. Fair married Helen McCormick in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and served at the Battle of the Bulge in the 84th Infantry Division Rail Splitters. He and his wife settled in Lodi in 1947, where he was employed by General Mills as a machinist for 34 years until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the American Legion Lodi Post No. 22, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lockeford Post No. 9009, and the Quarter Century Club at General Mills. He was an avid Sacramento Kings fan, and enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, dancing and especially spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Fair, of Lodi; sons, Charles and Steven Fair, both of Lodi; daughter, Sharon Paoletti, of Acampo; brother, Roy Fair, of Arkansas; sisters, Loretta Hendricks, of Oregon, and Lillie Plum, of Oklahoma; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park with Pastor Steve Jarrett of New Hope Community Church in Lodi officiating, assisted by the Lodi American Legion Post No. 22. Inurnment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lodi Memorial Hospital Home Health Agency, P.O. Box 3004, Lodi, CA 95241; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
