James Gundert
James M. Gundert, 78, of Lodi, died Sept. 18 in his home. He was born March 28, 
1927, in Lodi.

Mr. Gundert graduated from Lodi High School in 1945. Following graduation, he 
joined the United States Marine Corps. He served from 1945-49 and attained the 
rank of sergeant. 

Later, he earned a bachelor of arts degree from Sacramento State College.

He played football in both highschool and college and enjoyed the sport 
throughout his life.

He was employed as chief investigator by San Joaquin County Human Services 
Agency from 1959 to 1991.

He was a member of Crossroads Community Church. He was also a member of the 
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lockeford Post No. 9009 and the Loyal Order of the 
Moose No. 634 of Lodi.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Martha Gundert, of Lodi; son, Leonard 
Gundert, of Chico; step-daughters, Kim Stamper, of Lodi and Laurel Blankinship, 
of Chico; step-sons, Kevin Stamper, of Wallace, Richard Haas, of Texas, and 
Larry Haas, of Sacramento; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Gundert; and sister, Lillian 
Gundert.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lodi Community Church, 444 Turner 
Road, Lodi, with Pastor Scott Hubbard of Crossroads Community Church 
officiating. Committal will follow at Lodi Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum. 
Visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Friday at Rocha's Mortuary, 215 S. 
School St.

Rocha's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
