Elvira C. Gutierrez

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday for longtime Tracy 
resident Elvira C. Gutierrez, 71, who died Sunday at her home.

Born in Rocky Ford, Colo., Mrs. Gutierrez lived in Tracy 47 years. She worked 
at H.J. Heinz Co. and J.C. Penney. She retired from the Merced County School 
District as a field service aide. She enjoyed spending time with her 
grandchildren, bargain shopping, yard sales, watching Spanish-language soap 
operas, reading and collecting bells.

Mrs. Gutierrez is survived by her husband of 47 years, Manuel Gutierrez Sr. of 
Tracy; children, Manuel Gutierrez Jr., and his wife, Rosemary, Vincent E. 
Gutierrez, Elizabeth J. Johnson, and her husband, Thomas, and Jesus L. 
Gutierrez, all of Tracy, and Esther Gutierrez, and her husband, John Molina, 
of Modesto; siblings, Marcelo Chaparro of San Jose, Manuel Chaparro of 
Lathrop, Daniel and Chris Chaparro, both of Tracy; grandchildren, Tiffany and 
Alysha Anderson, Emily Gutierrez and Maria Gutierrez, all of Tracy, Manuel, 
Marcus and Necas Silva, all of Manteca, Shane Martinez and Olivia Molina, both 
of Modesto.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Cesaria Chaparro; son, 
Salvador Gutierrez; and siblings, David and Amado Chaparro.

Saturday’s Mass will begin at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 W. 
Eaton Ave. Visitation will be observed from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Fry Memorial 
Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., followed by a vigil at 7 p.m. Interment will be 
in Tracy Cemetery.

Contributions in Mrs. Gutierrez’s name may be sent to St. Bernard’s Building 
Fund, 163 W. Eaton Ave., Tracy 95376.
