Gillespie, 67, of Lodi, died March 27. He was born Nov. 4, 1937, in Lodi, where he was raised and attended local schools. Mr. Gillespie graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1955, where he received the Conklin Award his senior year. He attended the University of California Berkeley, where he joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and played football the last year Lynn (Pappy) Waldorf coached. He was a member of the Big C Society and Pappy's Boys. Following college, he served in the California National Guard, Lodi Battery. He was a fourth generation grape grower and was a former president of the Lodi District Grape Growers He was also a former member of the Lodi Rotary Club. He served on the Tokay Marketing Agreement Board, and was a member of the Lodi Lodge No. 256 and the Lucky Anglers. He also served as a director of the North San Joaquin Water District Board. In 1984, he was inducted into the Lodi Sports Hall of Fame and received a Special Honors Award the following year for being part of the 1955 Lodi Legion Baseball Team. He was a member of BOBS and coached little league for many years. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Julia Gillespie; sons, Curt Gillespie, of Lodi, and Rich Gillespie, of Elk Grove; daughter, Sarah Gillespie Cima, of Rochester, Minn.; sister, Mary Ann Boyd, of Glenbrook, Nev.; and eight grandchildren. There will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hutchins Street Square Foundation, Lodi Memorial Foundation, San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum, St. John's Episcopal Church, or a charity of the donor's choice.
