He was born Feb. 16, 1915, in Fresno. Mr. Hoskins was raised in Berkeley, and attended Berkeley High School, where he performed in the band. He attended University of California, Berkeley, and graduated from Armstrong Business College in Berkeley. He arranged music for several Bay Area dance orchestras and also played the saxophone. Robert Hoskins He met his wife Virgina through his involvement in music, and they married in 1942. He served in World War II in Europe as a first lieutenant with the 554th AA Batalion. After his service in the military, he moved to Redding with his wife, where he worked as a radio announcer and copywriter with radio station KVCV. He formed his own dance orchestra and played in the Redding area. In 1958, he and his family settled in Lodi, where he was employed by Caltrans in Stockton as a radio technician. He was later employed by the State of California as a supervisor in the telecommunications division until his retirement in 1985. He was an active member of Doc Howen's Lodi German Band, and played clarinet in the Lodi Community band along with his wife. He also served as the band's librarian for many years. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He enjoyed ham radio, and was an amateur radio operator with W6AMB. He also helped his family earn their ham radio licenses. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Hoskins, of Lodi; daughter, Connie Woodward, of Roseville; and three grandsons. A memorial reception will be held at a later time. Burial will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery in Piedmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lodi Community Band, 1232 Lakewood Drive, Lodi, CA 95240.
