Martha Hellwig


Martha Hellwig, 91, of Lodi, died Aug. 25 in Lodi. She was born Dec. 19, 1912, 
in Wishek, N.D.

Mrs. Hellwig worked at Herr Brothers Mercantile in Wishek. In 1938, she married 
Joshua Herr, and they settled in Lodi. She was a homemaker until 1944, and 
later went to work at Purity Grocery Store as a checker. She later married 
Jerry Hellwig. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the First Baptist 
Senior Group, and the Grange Women's Auxiliary in Victor. She enjoyed sewing, 
traveling and fishing.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice Wakefield, of Lodi; and brother, Arthur 
Will, of Baraboo, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joshua Herr, in 1944; second 
husband, Jerry Hellwig, in 1986; brothers, Ruben Will and Marvin Will; and 
sister, Freda Vennard.

A chapel service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Lodi Funeral Home with 
Pastor Steve Newman of First Baptist Church officiating. Committal will be 
private at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 
p.m. Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lodi Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 
267 N. Mills, Lodi, CA 95242; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
