Schumacher, 82, of Lodi, died Sept. 1 in Lodi. He was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Napoleon, N.D. Mr. Schumacher worked as a rancher and farmer and also owned a bar in Napoleon. He married Betty Marquart in 1967 and they made their home in Lodi in 1968. He was a resident of Lodi for 36 years, where he worked for Don Wortley Heavy Equipment for 30 years as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed gardening and playing the accordion. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. Joseph Schumacher He is survived by his wife, Betty Schumacher, of Lodi; sons, Terry Hilzendeger and Jeffrey Hilzendeger, both of Lodi; daughters, Roxanne Gruneich and Connie Schumacher, both of Lodi; sisters, Maggie Matson and Eva Wolf, both of Bismarch, N.D., and Clara Hilla, of Michigan; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Pete Schumacher, Sebastian Schumacher, Frank Schumacher and Andrew Schumacher; and two sisters. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cherokee Memorial Park with Deacon Porfi Cisneros officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Lodi Funeral Home. A virtual register book may be signed at www.lodifuneralhome.com.
