He is survived by his wife of 22 years, MaryAnn Lemos Porterfield; his children, Jonathan Porterfield of Santa Cruz, CA; daughters Erin Porterfield of Omaha, NE, and Lynne Porterfield of London, England, his stepson, Jeff McCallum of Los Osos, CA, the mother of his children, Liana Fowler Furr of Park City, Utah, and three grandsons, Kai Alexander and Quinn Elliott Porterfield of Santa Cruz and Kaden Porter Williams of Omaha. Neil Bowen Porterfield Although he was born in Porterville, CA to Charles Kenneth Porterfield and Ensie Koskella Porterfield on March 6, 1936, the family soon moved back to Lodi permanently. His educational background included graduating from Lodi High School in 1954, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in 1958, teaching credential, and Master's degree from the College of the Pacific. Before deciding on education as a career, he attended law school in San Francisco for one year. He also served in the Air Force Reserve. An English teacher for 35 years, he taught ten years at Lodi High School and then at San Joaquin Delta Community College where he also served as chair of the English Department for a decade. Neil loved reading and playing tennis. He had a wide-range of interests and hobbies including the building of model airplanes, ships, and cars; painting with oils and watercolors; and traveling. Most of all, he loved being in his home and gardens. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Sept-ember 11, at 1:00 P.M. at the United Congregational Church, 701 S. Hutchins, Lodi (corner of Tokay and Hutchins Streets) followed by a joyous Celebration of Neil's Life in the Fellowship Hall. Out of town visitors using Highway 99 or I-5 are to take Highway 12 exits into Lodi and turn north at the Hutchins Street signal light and proceed several long blocks until they reach the church.
