Dale Buchanan


Dale Marion Buchanan, 73, of Modesto and formerly of Lodi, died Sept. 2 at a 
Modesto hospital. She was born Dale Marion Underwood on July 14, 1931, in 
Stockton.

Mrs. Buchanan was raised in Calaveras County and lived in Lodi before settling 
in Modesto a year ago. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, canning, and 
family gatherings.

She is survived by her sons, Edward Austin, of Lockeford, Ronald Austin and 
David Austin, both of Mountain Ranch, and Donald Austin, of Modesto; daughter, 
Deborah Austin-Zylla, of Tracy; step-daughters, Violet Freeman, of Lathrop, and 
Marsha Buchanan, of Orange County; step-sons, Logan Buchanan, of Carson City, 
Nev., and Loren Buchanan; and sister, MaryJane Briery, of Modesto; 26 
grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Buchanan; and son, Jake Austin.

Services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Northern 
California, 553 Pilgrim Dr., Foster City, CA 94404.
