Born and raised in Tracy, he attended Tracy schools and was a 1953 graduate of Tracy High, where he excelled in science and athletics. He played halfback on the Bulldog football team, was a member of the basketball team that captured the championships of the Valley Oak League, Gustine Tournament and Tracy Lions Club Tournament, and played first base on the baseball team. Mr. McCleary was named winner of the Boys Block T Blanket Award as the outstanding athlete in the class of 1953. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, Mr. McCleary worked for IBM in Stockton as a technician and applications engineer. He retired in 1981. Survivors include his wife, Patricia McCleary of Stockton; four sons, Allen McCleary of Sacramento, Charles and Raymond McCleary, both of Jackson, Wyo., and Bill McCleary of Lodi; and five grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Margaret Mandish and Kathryn McCleary, both of Tracy. Services will be private.
