Manuel A. Avila April 16, 1920 — May 1, 2004 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday for longtime Tracy resident and Holly Sugar employee Manuel A. Avila, 84, who died Saturday at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital following a long illness. A native of Lemoore, Mr. Avila moved to Tracy in 1939. He worked as a warehouseman for Holly Sugar 20 years, retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Avila was a parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. He was member of I.P.F.E.S., U.P.E.C., St. Anthony’s Society, Our Lady of Fatima and the Disabled American Veterans. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, avô and friend. Mr. Avila is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary A. Avila of Tracy; three sons, Manuel J. Avila, and his wife, Mary, of Galt, Steven P. Avila, and his wife, Darlene, of Tracy, and Ernest J. Avila, and his wife, Dana, of Tracy; a daughter, Mary Lou Canale, and her husband Randy, of Tracy; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Steven, Eric, Jason and Aaron Avila and Jacquelin and Vince Canale, all of Tracy, Damon Avila of Elk Grove and Melissa Rocha of Galt; three great- grandchildren, Ryan, Kayley and Taylor Rocha, all of Galt; and a sister, Mary Gomes of Manteca. Wednesday’s Mass and rosary recital will begin at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave. Visitation will be observed from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave. Interment will be in Tracy Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mr. Avila’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
