He was born in Loomis on May 16, 1924. Mr. Kurahara was raised in Loomis and graduated from Placer Union High School in Auburn. During World War II, he was interned in camp at Tule Lake for a brief time. Then he moved to Chicago where he attended mechanic's school. He returned to Loomis and began farming in 1946. He met Mary Kawamura, of Lodi, and moved to Lodi in 1947. He was married on April 27, 1947. Tom Kurahara He was employed as a field foreman for 41 years for John Taylor Farms. He retired in 1989. He was a member of the Lodi Buddhist Church, the Japanese-American Citizens League, Lucky Anglers of Lodi, the Northern California Golf Association, the Mokuyo-Kai Golf Club of Lodi, and the American Association of Retired Persons. He enjoyed golfing, traveling with his family, doing handy work, fishing, and working with his koi pond and his vegetable garden. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kurahara; son, Craig Kurahara; and daughter, Gayle Miyaski, all of Lodi. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in Lodi Buddhist Church, 23 N. Stockton St., Lodi. Rev. Kenshin Fujimoto will officiate. Private inurnment will be held in Cherokee Memorial Park. There will be no visitation. A memorial remembrance registry may be signed at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way near Beckman Road in Lodi today, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The funeral planning committee meeting will be held today at 7 p.m. in the Lodi Buddhist Church Annex.
