Jane Elinor Stackhouse Brock 
May 28, 1911 - October 17, 2004



Longtime Stockton resident Jane E. Brock, 93, passed away at home in Illinois 
on Sunday, October 17, 2004. Mrs. Brock was born in Bismarck, North Dakota, on 
May 28, 1911, and grew up there. She graduated from the University of Minnesota 
in 1933 with a BA in English. In 1936, she received a Nursing degree from 
Northwestern University School of Nursing. Not long thereafter, Mrs. Brock 
became a flight attendant with TWA, based in Kansas City, flying on Ford 
Trimotors. This was at a time when all flight attendants were required to be 
RNs. She moved to California in 1938 with a friend, and after a brief stay in 
Los Angeles, settled in the Bay Area. 
It was at University of California Hospital in San Francisco that she met her 
future husband William Brock, an intern there, in autumn 1938. They were 
married in July 1939. Dr. and Mrs. Brock moved to Stockton in 1947 and raised 
three children here. Mrs. Brock was a founder and active member of the St. 
Joseph's Medical Auxiliary. She was also active in Junior Aid and the Delta 
Delta Delta Sorority. She and her husband enjoyed their many travels in the 
United States and overseas. In 2001, Dr. and Mrs. Brock left Stockton to live 
with their daughter, Susan Cleverdon in northern Illinois. Recently they marked 
their 65th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Brock is remembered with love by her 
husband William Brock of Caledonia, Illinois; daughters, Susan Clever- don of 
Caledonia, Illinois and Nancy Bale of Anchorage, Alaska; son, Paul Brock of San 
Diego, California; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 
The family has established a fund in Mrs. Brock's memory at St. Mary's 
Interfaith Dining Room Stockton, California.
