He was born March 19, 1917, in Lodi, where he attended schools and graduated from Lodi High School. Mr. Lyon moved to Gardnerville in 1978, where he was a member of the Christ Presbyterian Church. He was employed as an aeronautical engineer for Howard Hughes Aircraft for 35 years, where he was involved in the development of Spruce Goose. He received many honors throughout his career as a glider pilot, most recently at the dedication of the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Ore. He is survived by his sister, Thelma Thornesberry, of Lodi; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Lyon. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Christ Presbyterian Church in Gardnerville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyon Memorial Fund at Christ Presbyterian Church in Garderville. A register book may be signed at www.waltonsfuneralhomes.com.
