He never complained about his cancer and was courageous to his last breath. Harry is noted for his volunteerism in our community, including having been a manager, coach and President of Oak Park Little League, the President of Neeham Elementary Schol PTA, member of the original class of S.T.A.R.S. for the S. J. Co. Sheriff's department and member of VIP's. Other volunteer activities included President of the Board of the Directors for the Association for Retarded Citizens of San Joaquin, Vice-President of Volunteers for Stockton Civic Theatre, and founder of "Footlighters", a fund-raising organization for Stockton Civic Theatre. Harry received three awards from SCT including the Bollinger Award, the Layne Fields Award, and a special recognition 1995-96 Award for outstanding fund raising. Harry served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946 and served in the South Pacific during WWII. Having been raised in orphanages from the age of three to eleven years old before being re-united with his mother and four siblings, Harry attended school only through the eighth grade in order to work to help support his mother. He was in the CCC until at age 17, he enlisted in the service. After marrying his wife, Bobbie, in 1975, he decided to finish his education and got his GED through Stockton Unified School for Adults. He went on to S.J. Delta College earning his A.A. degree with a 3.93 GPA at age 66. He continued at UOP as a pre-law major for three semesters but was unable to complete his degree due to a major helath problem. He enjoyed performing at SCT, as well as in many productions at S. J. Delta College, Smiler's Dinner Theatre, Tokay Players and City of Stockton's Sesquicentennial. Harry is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Bobbie, his loving children, son, Rob (Georgia) Wallinger, and daughters, Linda (Bill) Wilson, and Carrie (Stephen) Nerheim. "Grampy" will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Robert, Chris, and Laurie Wallinger, Molly and Katie Nerheim, Brad (Doni) Wilson, Kim (Bill) Freeman, great-grandson, Brandon Wilson and great- granddaughters, Amee and Aubrey Freeman. He is also survived by his brother Jack Wallinger, brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Dorothy Whitmire, sister-in-law, Carol Bitcon, nephews, nieces and many dear friends. A celebration of Harry's life will be held Sunday, October 31, 2004, at the Stockton Civic Theatre, 2312 Rosemarie Lane, at 11:00 a.m. No flowers please.
