Renner (Rena) Mae Thurston 
July 22, 1935 - October 17, 2004


Renner (Rena) Mae Thurston, 69, of Stockton passed way on October 17, 2004. She 
was born the fourth of ten children to Lillie Ophelia (Big Momma) and Isaiah 
(Jack) Simpson, Sr. on July 22, 1935 in Idabel, Oklahoma. Rena made her career 
as a Manager with Stockton Unified School District for 33 years until she 
retired in 2000 and has lived in Stockton for 45 years. She began her family in 
1950 with the birth of a son, John Simpson. She met and married Isaac Thurston 
in 1953 and to that union five children were born. Rena was preceded in death 
by two sons, John Simpson, Sr. and Eric Thurston; four sisters, Oreal, Jerlene, 
Merley and Ruth and one brother, Willie.
Survived by one sister, Layra Jackson; 3 brothers, Alex, Isaiah and Elbert 
Simpson. Rena was an avid lover of all sports. She was best known for her 
cooking and enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends. Rena 
loved shopping, playing PO-KENO, fishing, playing her computer slot games, her 
crossword puzzles, and traveling, especially to Baltimore, MD and to Reno. Rena 
was a loving and caring mother and grandmother to EVERYONE! Her love for people 
and life was so big that the void will never be filled. Rena was a generous and 
kind spirited person who always put everyone's needs before her own. 
She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Jo Ann Edwards and Lillian 
(Elaine) Thurston; two sons, Lonnie Ray and Robert Thurston, Sr.; one son-in-
law, Lawrence Edwards; two daughters-in-law, Holly Simpson and Iwanna Thurston; 
ten grandchildren, Patricia Trawick, Jose Simpson, Pamela Simpson, John 
Simpson, Jr., Kevin Craft, Aaron Edwards, Terrell Bonner, Ronnie Jones, Tenisha 
Jones, Robert Thurston, Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Brittany Craft, Alisha 
Craft, Marceleno Simpson, Ashante Thurston, Alexis Trawick, Tyra Brown and a 
host of nieces and nephews and loving friends.
Funeral Services wil be held on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at 
God's Throne Baptist Chruch, 405 E. Lindsay St. Visitation will be on 
Wednesday, 10:00-5:00 p.m. at Frisbie-Warren & Carrol Mortuary, 809 N. 
California St., Stockton.
