Machado of Linden died peacefully October 22, 2004, in Stockton. George was an avid gar dener who enjoyed sharing the results of his skills, and a world traveler whose travels included many trips to the Azores, homeland of his parents. He was especially proud of his many years with the U.S. Postal Service in Linden, retiring as Assistant Postmaster. Born on the family ranch in Linden, George lived there all of his life. He was a graduate of Linden Schools. His affiliations included the Linden Chamber of Commerce and Portuguese Fraternal Organizations. He was the son of Portuguese immigrants, Angelina and Gregorio Machado, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alma; brothers Manuel Pimentel of Tracy; Joe Pimentel of Linden; Thomas Pimentel of Sacramento; and sister Clara Jackson of Stockton. He is survived by his sister Marie Kaiser of Stockton; brothers Tony Machado of Tracy and William Machado of Linden; step-daughter, Catherine Smith of Oxnard; and many nieces and nephews. A Vigil Service will be held at DeYoung Mortuary, 601 N. California Street, Stockton, at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 31, 2004. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Linden at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 1, 2004, with committal following at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, 719 E. Harding Way in Stockton. Visitation will be Saturday, October 30, 2004, at DeYoung Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, October 31, 2004, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It was George's wish that contributions in his memory be made to Make-a-Wish Foundation, 1401 Halyard Dr., West Sacramento, CA, 95691.
