Horvath October 27, 1921 - October 27, 2004 Tibor J. Horvath, 83, was born October 27, 1921, in Nagybakonak, Hungary. He died Wednesday, October 27, 2004, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Horvath was a chemical engineer and a university professor in Hungary. In the wake of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, he heroically led his wife and young children to freedom in the United States where he worked as a research chemist and program manager for various pharmaceutical and agricultural companies. He was a resident of Stockton from 1963 to 1973 and moved back to Stockton after his retirement in 1983. He was an avid chess and bridge player achieving the level of life master. Mr. Horvath passionately loved the United States and prided himself in the extensive exploration of his adoptive country. He will be remembered for his keen intelligence, his love of nature and spirit of adventure, his wonderful singing voice, and his devotion to his family. Survived by Katalin, his loving wife of 60 years; his children and their spouses, Clara Horvath, Tibor Z. Horvath, Kathy and Chris Barrere, Julie and Dave Stephens, Maria and Bill Miller; grandchildren and their spouses, Sean and Shannon Stephens, Gretchen and John Hydo, Howard and Cara Hawley, Christine and Josh Hassey, Peter, Jim, and Laurie Barrere, Andrea and Forrest Horvath, William Miller; great-grandchildren, Kharyssa Cumberledge, Morgann, Brooke, and Sydnee Stephens, and Jake Hydo. Funeral Mass at O'Connor Woods Chapel located at Wagner Heights Road on Friday, October 29, 2004 at 12:30 p.m., followed by a reception in the O'Connor Woods Club House.
