Horvath October 27, 1921 - October 27, 2004 Tibor J. Horvath, 83, was born October 27, 1921, in Nagybak- onak, Hungary. He died Wednes day, October 27, 2004, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Horvath was a chemical engineer and a university professor in Hungary. In the wake of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, he heroically led his wife and young children to freedom in the United States where he worked as a research chemist and program manager for various pharmaceutical and agricultural companies. He was a resident of Stockton from 1963 to 1973 and moved back to Stockton after his retirement in 1983. He was an avid chess and bridge player achieving the level of life master. Mr. Horvath passionately loved the United States and prided himself in the extensive exploration of his adoptive country. He will be remembered for his keen intelligence, his love of nature and spirit of adventure, his wonderful singing voice, and his devotion to his family. Survived by Katalin, his loving wife of 60 years; his children and their spouses, Clara Horvath, Tibor Z. Machado of Linden died peacefully October 22, 2004, in Stockton. George was an avid gardener who enjoyed sharing the results of his skills, and a world traveler whose travels included many trips to the Azores, homeland of his parents. He was especially proud of his many years with the U.S. Postal Service in Linden, retiring as Assistant Postmaster. Born on the family ranch in Linden, George lived there all of his life. He was a graduate of Linden Schools. His affiliations included the Linden Chamber of Commerce and Portuguese Fraternal Organizations. He was the son of Portuguese immigrants, Angelina and Gregorio Machado, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alma; brothers Manuel Pimentel of Tracy; Joe Pimentel of Linden; Thomas Pimentel of Sacramento; and sister Clara Jackson of Stockton. He is survived by his sister Marie Kaiser of Stockton; brothers Tony Machado of Tracy and William Machado of Linden; step-daughter, Catherine Smith of Oxnard; and many nieces and nephews. A Vigil Service will be held at DeYoung Mortuary, 601 N. California Street, Stockton, at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 31, 2004. Munday June 9, 1916 - October 26, 2004 Walter P. Munday, 88, died suddenly on October 26, 2004, following surgery. He was born in San Diego on June 9, 1916 and attended school there. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1939 and was assigned to the Medical Corps at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco. Many of the men wounded at Pearl Harbor were sent to Letterman and Walt worked with them on the surgical ward. In 1942 he was re-assigned to the Medical Detachment at Ogden Arsenal in Utah. Here he met his future wife, Kathleen, who was secretary to the Post Surgeon. They were married on June 9, 1944 (his birthday). At the end of the war they went to San Diego where their two children were born, Susan and Brian. He transferred into the Veterinary Corps which involved food inspection of meat products being purchased by the Armed Forces. In 1954 he was sent to Korea for about 6 months and then to Japan where his family joined him for the next two years. He was then assigned to the Presidio in San Francisco and worked in the South Bay and East Bay area. He retired in 1974 after serving 22 years in the Army and 10 years with the U.S.D.A. Meat Inspection. He was an avid golfer for most of his adult life. He was a painter and was a volunteer art instructor for seniors at Seifert Center for 15 years. He was a Mason for many years and belonged to the Stockton Art League and SIRS Branch #67. Walt was one of nine children, three of whom have survived - Charles of Stockton, Dorothy Yocum of Santa Maria and Gardner of El Cajon. Walt is survived by his wife of 60 years and his daughter, Susan of Oakland and son Brian of Stockton. Memorial Services will be held Monday, November 1, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 & Harney Lane, Lodi. "Pete" Stewart Sept. 24, 1928 - Oct. 27, 2004 Franklin R. "Pete" Stewart, of Stockton, C. age 76 years, passed in a Stockton hospital on Wednesday, October 27, 2004. He was born on September 24, 1928 in Buncombe, Illinois to Ernest "Bill" and Millie (Rich) Stewart. He was reared and educated there, and in 1951, during the Korean Conflict was inducted to the U.S. Army. In 1953 he was honorably discharged as a Corporal. For over 50 years he has resided in Stockton, and was employed by the State of California at the Stockton State Hospital as a Psychiatric Technician for 40 years. He retired in 1987. He was a member of the Morning Star Masonic Lodge No. 68 in Stockton, and enjoyed camping, fishing and square dancing. Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Mildred L. Stewart of Stockton; son and his wife Jim and Colleen Stewart of Stockton; 2 granddaughters Corie Elizabeth and Kimberlee Ann Stewart; 2 brothers, William Stewart, and Jack and his wife Julie Stewart of Buncombe, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd, 1:00 p.m. in Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 and Harney Lane in Lodi, CA. He was a former handgun instructor for the Stockton Police Department and the FBI. He was an avid Raiders fan.
