She was born March 20, 1922, in Tacoma, Wash. Mrs. Howen graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940, majoring in English, history and clothing. She attended and graduated from Knapp Business College of Tacoma. After graduation, she worked as a secretary to support the war effort at Fort Lewis, Wash. She married Walter E. Howen in 1946, and they settled in Colma. She was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was also a former member of the George Washington School PTA where she served as a room mother, a former Cub Scout Den Mother and a former Camp Fire Girls Club Leader. Geraldine Howen She was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church of Lodi, where she served as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, resource center coordinator, and church historian. She was also a member of the Ambassador Class, the Women's Missionary Society, and a charter member of the Lodi chapter of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia. For many years, she served as a docent for the San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum. She enjoyed attending programs of the Lodi Community Concert and the Lodi Community Band. She also enjoyed traveling, and traveled with her family throughout the United States, Canada, Germany, Australia, and the Fiji Islands. She is survived by her sons, Larry Howen, of Wallace, Jim Howen, of Modesto, and Robert Howen, of Lodi; daughters, Marilyn Howen Brown, of Lodi, and Patty Howen Fuller, of Orangevale; brother, Raymond Dingfield, of Shelton, Wash.; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Howen in 2003; and brothers, Marvin O. Dingfield and Lester R. Dingfield. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Temple Baptist Church, 801 S. Lower Sacramento Road, with Pastor Perry Kallis officiating. There will be no visitation and committal will be private at Cherokee Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum, P.O. Box 30, Lodi, CA 95241; Temple Baptist Church, 801 S. Lower Sacramento Road, Lodi, CA 95242; or to Jim Elliot Christian High School, 2695 W. Vine St., Lodi, CA 95242. A family remembrance memorial registry may be signed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, near Beckman Road, Lodi.
