She was born July 15, 1920, in San Bernardino. Mrs. Sweet graduated from Stockton High School, and received an Associate of Arts degree from Stockton College. She worked as a Red Cross driver. She also taught Red Cross swimming, and was the co-organizer of the Red Cross Swim Campaign. She worked as a counselor at the Campfire Girl Camp Minkalo. She was a member of Zetagathean, where she was a former president of Mothers Club. She was a former member of the Philomathean Club, and was active in the PTA, where she served as the 1st vice president for two years. She received the California Honorary Life Membership in 1959, and was on the original planning committee to establish the Mary Bixler Stanton Foundation for Stockton Youth Education. She was chairman of the radio and TV committee that helped to establish KXTV PBS Channel 6, as the first television station in the area. She was also involved in the following organizations; Sheriff Sousa Committee, Community Health Services, Boy and Girl Scouts, Campfire Girls, Little League, interfaith programs, and Temple Israel Sisterhood. She was president of the Stockton Chapter of Hadassah and of the El Dorado PTA. She was captain of Tuesday Ladies 18 holers at Stockton Golf and Country Club. In 1972, she relocated to Aptos with her family, where she served on the Pacific Coast Region Hadassah Board of Directors, and was a charter member and president of the Santa Cruz Chapter. She was president of the Genealogical Society of Santa Cruz County. She served on the board of directors of the Santa Cruz Art League, and was a member of the Pajaro Valley Golf Club. She and her family relocated to Murphys in 1981, where she was captain of the F.M. Women's 18 Hole Golf Club, and began the Forest Meadows Scramble Group in 1983 with her husband. She and her husband settled in Lodi in Sept. 2004. She worked as a genealogist for over 30 years, and was a member of the Vermont Old Cemetery Association, Descendants of Founders of Ancient Windsor Ct. Society of Genealogists, Beaver Co. Genealogy Society, Erie Society for Genealogy Research, Jasper Co, and the Santa Cruz Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution. She received the Presidential Certificate of Commendation for Community Service from former President John F. Kennedy. She is survived by her husband of 621/2 years, Lester Y. Sweet; son, Jeffry Y. Sweet; daughter, Julie A. Factor; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Jerrald E. Sweet. There will be no services.
