William Merwin "Bill" Stemler

Nov. 27, 1908 - Nov. 10, 2004



William Merwin "Bill" Stemler, 95, of Lodi passed away early Wednesday, 
November 10, 2004 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton. Mr. Stemler was born 
November 27, 1908 in Lockeford and has resided in Lodi for the past 90 years. 
After a short career as a barber, he entered the life and health insurance 
business. Later, he founded the Stemler Insurance Agency, specializing in 
employer health plans. His career spanned 50 years. He was a past president and 
member of the Woodbridge Golf & Country Club, past president of the Commercial 
Exchange Club, member of the Lodi Oddfellows Lodge #259. Past member of the 
Lodi Sportsman's Club, past member of the Lodi Bowling League, past member of 
Ducks Unlimited. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Bill thoroughly 
enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his wife, Blanche 
Stemler in 1997, and by seven siblings.
Survived by 1 daughter, Judy, and her husband, Jim McTighe of Los Gatos; 1 son, 
William Michael, and his wife Linda Stemler of Carmel; 6 grandchildren, Michael 
and Patrick McTighe, Leslie Webster, Shannon, Greg, and Todd Stemler; 7 great 
grandchildren, 1 great great grand-child.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 13, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in the 
Harmony Grove Church followed by committal in the Harmony Grove Cemetery. There 
will be no visitation and Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home is in charge of 
the arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to the Harmony Grove Cemetery, 16510 North Linn 
Rd., Lodi, CA 95240. Everyone is invited to the luncheon Celebration of Bill's 
Life at 12:00 Noon at the Lodi Oddfellows Hall, 6 South Pleasant Ave., Lodi, 
CA.
