He was born Sept. 1, 1939, in Lodi. Mr. Mendonca was raised in Galt and Thornton, where he attended local schools and was active in Boy Scouts. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 21 years, including a tour in Vietnam from 1965-66. Following his service, he and his family returned to the Galt area. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lynda Mendonca; daughters, Renee Mendonca-Millard, and Tina Long, of Wilton; sisters, Hazel Read, of Sacramento, and Luana Manning, of San Diego; mother, Clara Mendonca, of Galt; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father, William Mendonca in 1981. A private graveside service will be held on Friday. A small gathering will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Mendonca home.
