Calvin attended the public schools of Rockmart, GA. Upon graduation from high school, he worked for the Charles D. Lynn Funeral Home in Cedartown, GA where he learned the funeral service trade. In June 1943, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy where he served until 1946. After the war, he attended the Atlanta College of Mortuary Science. Calvin worked as a traveling insurance salesman covering the southern United States and as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. In 1958, he moved to California and established roots in the Stockton community, where he founded the Jackson Funeral Home in 1964 which served the greater Stockton community until his retirement in 1989. Calvin was a founding member of the Esquire Club of Stockton. He also served as a Commissioner for the San Joaquin County Housing Authority and held leadership roles in the Valley Lode, California Morticians, California Funeral Directors and the National Funeral Directors & Morticians Associations; the Sons of David Masonic Lodge #41, the Valley Lodge of the Elks, and his church home, the Ebenezer AME Church. Preceding him in death are his loving mother, Corrine Verdie Jackson; a granddaughter, Kendra Tione Parker and long time family and business associates Clifford Basfield and Joe N. Jackson. Calvin is survived by his children, Shirleen Fariece Blevins of Laguna Beach, Calvin Bartholomew and Edward LeRoy Jackson of Stockton; and step children, Steven Warfield of Nashville, TN and Lynn Warfield Ryan of North Little Rock, AK; fifteen grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends. Services: Monday, November 22, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ebenezer AME Church, 132 N. Stanislaus St., Stockton.
