He was born in Salem, IL on June 5, 1915. He had lived in Stockton for most of his adult life until he retired and moved to Bend, OR. He lived there for 23 years until he became ill and his son "Mike" moved him back to Stockton to look after him. He had been a trucker all of his life. He joined the Navy during WWII and loved telling rather "colorful" stories about his experiences in the Navy. His passion in later life was watching movies over and over of his favorite actor, John Wayne. He was a Shriner for many years and 32nd Degree Mason. He was preceded in death on July 6, 2003, by his beloved wife of 66 years, Flora Mae Preston. He is survived by his beloved only child, Kenneth Michael Preston and wife Louanne, of Stockton; two cherished grandchildren, Chief MSGT Michael Shawn Preston (USAF) and wife Melody, of Sumter, SC; and Heather Ann Bickford and husband, Paul, of Lockeford, CA; four beloved great-grandchildren, Ashlee Michelle and Taylor Ann Preston, of Sumter, SC and Colton Harrison and Chelsea Michael Bickford, of Lockeford, CA. He is survived by three brothers, Joe Preston, of Las Vegas, NV, Bill Preston, of Bellingham, WA and Dean Preston, of Bend, OR. He had three sisters that preceded him in death; Evelyn Ray, Mina Scanlan and Nadine Dennis. He has a cherished niece, Catherine Preston, of Bend. OR and cherished nephew, Lloyd Scanlan and wife, Elaine. He has many other cherished nieces and nephews. Frisbie-Warren & Carroll is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine, CA on December 7, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. At the family's request contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1435 in lieu of flowers.
