He was born on December 8, 1921, in Stockton, CA of parents, Gohachi and Fukuyo Doi. His beloved wife of 50 years, Makiko; daughter, Alice and her family; son, Robert and his family survives him. Much loved Grand-father to Katie and Madeleine. His sisters, Yoshiko Mori of San Francisco, CA, and Satsuki Muroga of San Rafael, CA, and brother, Steve Doi of Honolulu, HI; nephews and nieces, James Doi, Katherine Mori, Ken Mori, Ken Doi, Claire Doi, Garrett Doi, Shizue Yahata and a very large family in Japan also survive him. He was a graduate of Stockton High School, Northern Illinois University, University of California at Berkeley and Columbia University of New York City. He taught at the Rohwer Relocation Center School, St. Charles School in Illinois, PS125 Manhattan, N.Y., Lowell High School, San Francisco, CA, Southern Oregon University, Ashland, OR and Central Wash-ington University, Ellensburg, WA. Richard was also a Veteran of the United States Army. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2004, at 1:30 p.m., Stockton Buddhist Temple, 2820 Shimizu Drive. Burial at Park View Cemetery in Manteca, CA will follow. Remembrances may be sent to the Richard and Makiko Doi Endowment Foundation at Central Washington University, 400 E.
