Furr Aug. 31, 1915 — April 17, 2004 A memorial service will be Saturday in Walnut Creek for Florence S. Furr, 88, a retired Tracy elementary school teacher who died April 17 at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek. A native of Colorado, Mrs. Furr earned a bachelor’s degree in 1938 from the University of Colorado. She moved to Tracy in the 1940s with her husband, the late Archie Furr, who was an oil distributor, farmer and teacher in Tracy. Mrs. Furr taught 23 years in Tracy, at Central and McKinley schools. After retiring from teaching, Mrs. Furr moved 12 years ago to the Rossmoor retirement community in Walnut Creek. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tracy and a founding member of Tracy Inner Wheel and the Tracy branch of American Association of University Women. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Falkey, and her husband, Mark, of Falls Church, Va.; three grandchildren, Mark, John and Elizabeth Falkey, all of Falls Church; two sisters, Blanche Shepherd of Salinas and Dorothy Bybee of Henderson, Nev.; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Shimpfky of Broomfield, Colo. Saturday’s service will begin at 2 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2100 Tice Valley Blvd., in Walnut Creek. Donations in Mrs. Furr’s name can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
