Paul grew up as an adventurous boy and joined the Navy while still a teenager. He served two tours of duty in Viet Nam as a Gunner's Mate on a PBR Boat on the Chu Lai Delta. During these tours he was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. After he returned from Viet Nam, he became a Deputy Sheriff for Shasta County and then Tuolumne County. Through the years Paul also supported his family with the work of his hands, making cabinets, gunstocks, and doors. Eventually he developed a career with the Cali-fornia Department of Corrections, working at various correctional camps in Northern California. Paul retired in 2000 as a Lieutenant. Retirement allowed him and his wife, Cheryl to move from Redding to Portland, Oregon. This brought them closer to their children and grandchildren. Paul was deeply devoted to his family and delighted in the time spent with them. Paul also enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, and water sports. He was a gifted carpenter and craftsman. God blessed Paul with many gifts and talents, which he generously shared with friends and family. He was a kind, compassionate and Godly man who led his family by example. Paul is survived by Cheryl, his wife of 33 years; children, Danna & Brett Casey and Christopher & Kerrie Gianelli. He has 5 grand-children, Ashlee, Courtney, Christian, Jacob and soon to be born, Hannah. He is also survived by three siblings, Tom, Mary and Helen and treasured friends Roger & Sylvia and David & Christi. Paul's greatest legacy is that he taught his family to know and serve Jesus Christ, to love, to laugh and to live a life of integrity.
