He was born January 31, 1913 in Russellville, Arkansas and graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1935. He enlisted in the Army in 1935 at Ft. Riley, Kansas and served in the Horse Artillery Unit. He also served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. His last assignment was personnel officer of the Army Security Agency at Arlington Hall Station in Arlington, Virginia. He retired in 1966 after serving in the Army for a total of 30 years. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Emblem, Presidential Unit Cita-tion (Republic of Korea), and United Nations Service Medal. He graduated from San Francisco State University with a BA in Political Science and an MBA in marketing. He was a CLU for John Hancock for many years. Mr. Crump retired from the San Francisco Board of Realtors. He served as Past President of Retired Officers Association (T.R.O.A.) of San Francisco, Past President of the American Legion, Golden Gate Post #40, Past District Commander of the American Legion, Life member of the Reserve Officers Association, Past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #3 and Past Northern California District Commander, Life member of Military Order of the World Wars (M.O.W.W.) and served as Post Commander 3 terms. Also served 3 years as Northern California District Commander, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars #4816; served 3 years as local commander of the National Association of Uniformed Services. He was a life fellow of the Oxford Club, and Highlanders Club. He retired from the San Francisco Board or Realtors and was a member of the NRA - Golden Eagles. Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jacqueline Porter Magers Crump. Survived by his sister, Lorene Crump of Greenbrier, Arkansas; 2 daughters, Jacqueline Mary Crump Harris of Quincy, Cynthia Mae Crump Hopson of Lodi; 2 sons-in-law, Edward G. Harris of Quincy, W. Keith Hopson of Lodi; 4 grandchildren, Pamela Jeanne Pontius of Hillsboro, Edward Jackson Harris Jr. of Quincy, Michael Keith Hopson of Stockton, Stephen William Hopson of Lockeford; 9 great grandchildren, Wade Michael, Roslyn Michelle and Julia Marie Pontius, Christopher Ryan, Andrew Michael, Zachary Keith, Matthew Ray, Kayla Ann and William Burness Hopson. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home with Chaplain Wayne Kildall officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Visitation will be Monday, December 6, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
