Ruth Esther Surdez Hartfelder 
March 8, 1906 - December 3, 2004



Ruth Esther Surdez Hartfelder, 98, peacefully passed away in Lodi on December 
3, 2004. San Joaquin Valley mourns the loss of a beautiful person and talented 
artist. Born March 8, 1906, in Brockton, Massachusetts. Ruth dedicated her life 
to artwork. Her signature piece, Blythe Spirit, is on display at San Joaquin 
Delta College. 
Ruth is survived by her daughters-in-law, Diane Handel of Acampo and Patricia 
Hutchins of Indiana; 5 nephews and nieces; 7 grand-children, and 14 great 
grandchildren. 
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion 
Reformed Church in Lodi with a private graveside committal service following. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Lodi Art Center, 110 
S. Church, Lodi, CA 95240.
