He was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Cunchahaken, Penn. Mr. McGuire was raised in New York. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, and served as a crew member on the USS Pampanito until he was discharged in 1960. He was employed by Sylvania in Mountain View. He later moved to Santa Cruz with his wife, where they owned and operated McGuire's Tavern for several years. They also managed several motels in Santa Cruz, San Jose, San Francisco and Los Banos until their retirement. He also served as a tour guide on the USS Panpanito after it was stationed at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 45. They moved to Lodi in 1999. He and his wife enjoyed traveling all over the United States. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus, especially when children thought he was Santa even without his suit on. He would give them 25 cents and tell them to call him just before Christmas with their wishes. He is survived by his wife, Ginnie McGuire, of Lodi; son, Charles A. McGuire III; daughters, Sandra and Shiela; step-daughter, Sharon; step-sons, Sonny and Richard; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. A military service will be held at a later date at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, where inurnment will follow. There will be no visitation.
