He was born in Cunchahaken, Pennsylvania on November 11, 1919. He was reared in New York and joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 years old. He served as a crew member on the USS Pampanito and was discharged in 1960. He was then employed by Sylvania in Mountain View, CA and later moved to Santa Cruz, where he and his wife, Ginnie, owned and operated McGuire's Tavern for several years. They also managed several motels in Santa Cruz, San Jose, San Francisco and Los Banos before retiring. He also served as a tour guide of the USS Pampanito, now at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 45. They moved to Lodi in 1999. They enjoyed traveling all over the United States, and for many years he enjoyed playing Santa Claus, especially when children thought he was Santa when they saw him without his suit; so he would gladly give them .25 cents and tell them to call him just before Christmas with their wishes. He is survived by his wife, Ginnie McGuire of Lodi; a son, Charles A. McGuire, III; 2 daughters, Sandra and Shiela; 3 stepchildren, Sharon, Sonny and Richard; also 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Military services are pending and will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, near Gustine, CA, where inurnment will follow. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, Lodi, in charge of arrangements.
