He was born April 29, 1936, in Minnesota. Mr. Nelson served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War from 1954-57. In 1957, he began quarter-mile drag racing and built A-Modified roadsters, dragsters and restored classic cars. He built a water-ski boat and taught 20 children how to water ski. He graduated from Humboldt State College in 1966 with a bachelor of arts degree in Industrial Arts. He lived in Sutherlin, Ore., Arcata and Livermore before settling in Acampo in 1975. He worked as an industrial designer and then became a general contractor and carpenter. He helped start the County Line Soccer League and served on its Board of Directors for eight years. He coached teams including the competition teams and also refereed the games. He was involved in 4-H and FFA and helped his son Keith show a line of registered horned Herefords at county and state fairs. He enjoyed camping and traveling, especially to NHRA drags. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Margaret Nelson, of Acampo; daughter, Shaleigh Sinclair, of Galt; son, Keith Nelson, of Acampo; step-daughter, Beth Washburn, of Galt; step-son, Tom Kallman, of Acampo; brothers, Claude Nelson, Steve Nelson, and Jack Nelson; sisters, Karen Ivy, Janis Bainbridge, and Sharon Miller; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis and Kenneth Nelson. There will be no services. Ben Salas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
