He is survived by his son, Kevin of Boise, Idaho; and his granddaughters, Carey and Jennifer, who reside in Kuna, Idaho, and Portland, Oregon. His wife, Yvonne Acker, in 1997 and his sister, Doris Roff, preceded him in death. Merwin was born to Harold and Edna Acker in Lodi, California. Merwin served in the Navy from 1944 through 1946. He then attended Fresno State College and the College of the Pacific. He married Yvonne Morotti in June 1952. He entered the engineering profession during his employment with Morrison Knudsen, Inc., from 1952 through 1989. At the time of his retirement he was chief estimator for concrete bids. Merwin enjoyed building model railroads and spending time with his pets. He began running in his 40's and competed in 6 marathons. He enjoyed working on old cars including a 1929 Model A and a 55 Cameo pickup. Merwin was 77 years old when he died as a resident of Boise Samaritan Village in Boise, Idaho. He had struggled for 15 years with the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Merwin's family would like to thank the staff at Boise Samaritan Village for their respect, love, and excellent care of Merwin over the past several years. A Memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2004 at the Risen Christ Catholic Community, 11511 Lake Hazel Road. In lieu of flowers, please consider visiting a nursing home near you in Merwin's memory. Services are under direction of the Relyea Funeral Chapel.
