George Cowell
George J. Cowell, 90, formerly of Lodi, died Dec. 25 in a Modesto hospital. He 
was born Oct. 7, 1914, in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Mr. Cowell moved to Lodi in 1976 and to Oakdale in 1999. He was employed as a 
carpenter in residential home building for many years in SoCal, and later in 
the northern part of the state, prior to his retirement. He was a "member in 
good standing" of the Carpenters Union Local No. 1800. He enjoyed fishing and 
golf, and even made his own set of golf clubs.

He is survived by his son, Joe Cowell, of Santa Rosa; daughter, Margaret 
Schuman, of San Jose; sister, Lois Gaskell, of Wyoming; step-daughters, Rachel 
Smith, of Oakdale, and Brenda Eardley, of Ceres; and six grandchildren and 14 
great-grandchildren.

At his request, services and visitation will not be held, and private inurnment 
is at Cherokee Memorial Park under the direction of Gierhart-Wells & Donahue 
Funeral Home.
