Major, US Army, entered into eternal rest January 4, 2005. He was 70 years old. Lee was born December 20, 1934, in Pilot Point, Texas to Willie Ray and Willie Lee Hughley. He was the eldest of two children. He lived in Sherman, Texas and graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in 1949. Lee married Mary Harris in September 1955; of this union one child was born daughter, Lynette Lowe. Divorced in 1956, Lee was married to Kathryn E. Burton in October 1959; they have one son, Lee V. Hughley. Lee joined the U.S. Army in January 1958, where he soared to the rank of Command Sergeant Major and was a member of Class 2 of the Sergeants Major Academy. Lee later joined the U.S. Army Reserves where he worked as Sergeant Major and advisor to DARCOM. Lee worked for Sharpe Army Depot in Lathrop, CA as a Transportation Manager until he retired in June 1993. Lee was a member of the Esquire Club and President of the Stockton Chapter of the Optimist Club in which he worked to support research for a cure of childhood cancer. Lee is preceded in death by mother, father and his wife Kathryn. Lee is survived by daughter, Lynette Lowe of Sterling, VA and son, Lee V. Hughley of Stockton, CA; granddaughter, Leah Lowe of Los Angeles, CA and a host of relatives and friends. Friends and family are invited to attend Funeral Services at Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary, 809 N. California St. in Stockton, CA. Services will be held Monday, January 10, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Committal: Stockton Rural Cemetery immediately following services. Family and friends are welcome to join in a celebration of Lee's life at his home following committal. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Stockton Optimist Club, 2801 Bunker Hill Dr., Stockton, CA 95209. Lee will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
