Bernice valued family above all else, and was married to WWII veteran and proud Pearl Harbor survivor, James Anthony Bryson, for 66 years. Bernice and "Jim" were married in their hometown, Greenville, South Carolina, where they lived with eldest son, Joe Bryson, until they moved to Stockton in 1951. Her second son Tony, Daughter Robin, and Joe were raised in the home Bernice and Jim owned in the Country Club community for 50 years. She and Jim recently returned to Stockton from Booneville, Arkansas, where they had built a hilltop house. Before she retired, Bernice was a cheerful and familiar face at then-favorite Stockton diners The Rolling Pin on Pacific Avenue and Eddie's Coffee Shop on Charter Way. Loyal patrons knew her as "Neecey." Her surviving eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren knew her as "The Grandma." She is also survived by daughters-in-law, Pattie, Kathleen, Dee Bryson Norick, and Debbie Bryson Bimbico. Bernice loved her family, Chinese food, watching golf, a perfect manicure, and her jewelry. She always had a dog by her side. Bernice spent many wonderful years traveling with Jim to picturesque sites in their beloved motor home meeting fellow Pearl Harbor survivors and other members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars throughout the Pacific Southwest. However, her favorite place to relax and talk and sing along with oldies radio was in Stockton on the Delta waterfront at the Rod and Gun Club. She also loved gardening, and frequently mailed photographs to family of her thriving roses, geraniums, and colorful beds of assorted flowers growing around her home. Her good humor and Southern warmth will be missed very much. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice House of San Joaquin for their compassionate assistance; 3888 N. Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95207.
