"Ike" Zarate June 3, 1924 - January 6, 2005 Isaac B. "Ike" Zarate, born June 3, 1924 in Mexico, moved to Stockton at the age of two. He "went" home January 6, 2005 in Stockton, CA. Ike graduated from Stockton High in 1943, entered the military where he served in Europe during WWII with the 63rd Infantry Division. He was decorated 5 times including the Bronze Star of Valor and 2 Purple Hearts. He entered the Postal Service in 1949 and was an NALC Union Official for 50 years. During his life he enjoyed bowling and playing golf, was an ASA softball and baseball umpire, football referee, coached youth basketball and was inducted into the Stockton Softball Hall of Fame. He also served as a Boy Scout leader and was a member of Ed Stewart Post. He touched many lives and will be missed very much. Survived by wife of 55 years, Donna Zarate; father of 7 children, Mike Zarate, Jeff Zarate, Larry Zarate, Steve Zarate, Christina Zarate, Chris Zarate, and Anna Romero, all of Stockton; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Muggie Zarate of Carmichael, and the late Joe Zarate of Stockton; 2 sisters, Natie Lopez of West Sacramento and Mary Crutchfield of Stockton. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at DeYoung Memorial Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, 1663 East Main St., Stockton, CA 95205. Visitation: Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mortuary. Committal: San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery. Memorials can be made to a charity of choice.
