He was born May 22, 1936, in Leedey, Okla. Mr. Schaal moved to Galt in 1939. He was the owner and operator of Lakewood Sporting Goods from 1968-72. He also owned Forest Lake Golf Course in Acampo from 1971-79, and changed it from a nine to an 18 hole course, and also added the driving range. He was a member of the Boy's Booster of Sports in Lodi, and coached all the major sports for Lodi Parks and Recreation including Pop Warner football, basketball and baseball. He is survived by his wife, Betty Schaal; sons, Dan Schaal, of Modesto, and Rick Schaal, of Lodi; daughter, Debby Koepplin, of Lodi; mother, Wilma Billie Schaal, of Bend, Ore.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Schaal; and sister, Janice Ward. There will be no services. Burial will be held at Cherokee Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Foundation. Sander's Chapel of the Ferns in Eureka is in charge of arrangements.
